TMO: The Mars Odyssey, 2015

My degree show work, where I explored the possibility of making a layered Mars spacesuit that adapts to the conditions of Mars. Once we adapt to one condition, that protective layer sheds and reveals the next layer.

As you can tell, I got very obsessed with sci-fi in my final year! Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, as well as Barbarella and Interstellar were big inspirations to me for this.

I loved making futuristic concepts on something as primitive as hand looms. This juxtaposition has always interested me and I loved exploring this in this project.

The collection was woven on table looms and Jacquard looms. Made with polyester, monofilament, nylon. Various sizes.
